Lost Dogs at LCC Next Month

Legendary super-group the Lost Dogs will be appearing at Liberty Community Church on May 14. Doors open at 7pm. This is a free show, but seating is limited and is available on a first-come first-served basis

The Lost Dogs are best known for their beautiful three-part harmony, guitar expertise, and easy, down-to-earth, crowd-pleasing banter that reflects their individual, yet highly complementary, personalities.

For many years music insiders and critics, along with a steadily growing number of fans all over the world, have recognized The Lost Dogs as individually brilliant singer/songwriters and storytellers in their own right. Possessing a musical skill and style reminiscent of the traditional American roots songs of Oh Brother Where Art Thou, together with a distinctive narrative delivery that can only be described as Lake Woebegone Day meets Hank Williams meets Jim Carey, over the years each “Dog” has also produced various solo and individual band recordings. Included among the many stylistically diverse projects written and performed by an individual Dog is everything from CBS and Nickelodeon cartoon themes to award winning music created for Steven Spielberg and Dream Works’ very first interactive video game. Below is the latest correspondence with Convoy of Hope, I had a conversation with Tim from that organization yesterday. He would prefer all volunteers to sign on to the following web page http://www.convoynova.org/volunteers.htm and register. Then click on Organizations and you will see Liberty listed second !! J YEAH !! … Okay, STOP being silly, this is serious !!

The page will explain what areas they need help and for which you can choose what you would prefer to do. The morning of the event everyone will need to be at the site by 7am Saturday morning 29 AUG 09. At that time they may request individuals to change roles if they are heavy in some areas and light in others.

Maybe we could all meet at the church at 6am and arrange to ride in groups to the event. We could even do the same at 6pm on Friday 28 AUG 09 for the Volunteer rally. Thoughts of anyone interested.

If you think you can’t make it to the rally Friday night, let me know and what you would prefer to do and I’ll pass that on to the host for their information.

Living Fine in O9 sermon series was an awesome eye opener for many of us! This Sunday we journey together deeper ...into The Blessed Life sermon series which actually deals with softening the heart and learning how to release the hold of debt!

Okay so this Sermon Series "living fine in '09" has truly been a time of growing for many of us right? wow! Anyway...lets get connected:

Need a Home group? It is never too late to visit one...Email: lcchgroups@gmail.com for the group nearest to your house. This is not a bible study group but a family unit you can trust to go through growing times ...together. One home group is doing a financial study with commitments and such...another is studying Ephesians and living out the Word...another supports you through hurts, habits and hangups...there are so many and some people belong to 2 :)

Sunday, February 15th we will dedicate babies, toddlers and children at the 12noon. If you or a friend are interested in getting your baby dedicated...email: info@lccbealeton.com or call the church office with the child's age, full name, and your name as the legal guardian.

Wow...Sunday was a powerful day at Liberty CC! Pastor Wes shared the message that we need to look to Christ for the true satisfaction of life in order to live fine in '09. Wow...sure we might have heard it before but many TRULY heard the FRESH WORD of GOD this time! We witness and participated in the first 2 baptisms of 2009! The testimonies were incredibly joyous! Many shared after each service that God is moving in their lives and that they want more of Him! Christ in Action's director Denny showed up with his wonderful wife Sandy and shared about what C.I.A is doing and has done around the world during disasters. Sunday was a powerful day at Liberty CC! 2009 will be a great year for those who decide to stand on the promises of God and continue to take the steps to grow in a closer relationship with Jesus ! Many will be glued to the televisions tomorrow as we watch the first black President take office! Sure you might have voted for him or against him but either way we must continue to pray for all the leaders of government. Trust that God is good and his mercies endureth forever and ever!

During this Sermon Series "Living Fine in '09" there are several Home groups doing many different studies that are helping all of us relearn what true living is all about. One home group is doing the "Managing Finances God's Way". Another group is doing healthy living through eating healthy and exercising. Other groups are reviewing current sermon series that Pastor Wes is giving us on Sundays and really delving into the scriptures and such. The Everlasting Gift

Ok...just breathe! Why wait until tomorrow to give or receive the gift? Come tonight and bring someone to receive the gift of love ....bring them back on Sunday to receive more of the Everlasting Gift of God's love...

TONIGHT 7pm: We will celebrate the birth of Christ in a traditional service by candlelight! We will partake in Holy Communion, sing hymns and listen to scripture readings. Pastor Wes has been an open vessel to God's Word and will share with us a life changing message. All you need to do is clear your over busy agenda and bring your open heart to experience Christ's love for you and your family. The wrapping of the gifts can wait. Bring someone and after the service we will have some light refreshments as we wish each other a very Merry Christmas. This service will NOT be a casual service for Liberty this is a SPECIAL service of reflection and reverence so we ask that when you enter Liberty that you would respect others by remaining quiet through the service.

Thursday & Friday our church offices will be CLOSED so we too can enjoy family time in celebration of God's love for us.

Sunday return at 9am;10:30am and 12noon for our last Sunday service for 2008 as we enter a NEW SERMON SERIES "Living Fine in '09". This sermon series will prepare us for a NEW lifestyle in fixing our finances, preparing our minds, hearts and bodies for a FINE YEAR IN 'O9!

THIS SUNDAY... "HAVE YOU SEEN CHRISTMAS" musical program featuring a special drama team from LCC under the direction of a very talented creative innovative TEEN...Miss Caitlin Kolba. The program will include talented and gifted dancers under the direction of Mrs. Patrice Blair from the BLAIR DANCE STUDIO who recently were featured on NBC. Our very own children under 5th grade will have a chance to sing with the special Christmas band lead by new recording artist Melinda James whose Christmas CD is being sold and all proceeds go to Liberty Community Church's "BUILDING COMMUNITY" fund. Pastor Wes will share the WORD of God in a SPECIAL MESSAGE just for this community. The snackbar will give SPECIAL hospitality through serving not only popcorn but HOMEMADE cookies from tomorrows WOMEN of LIBERTY's BAKING DAY (Sweet Service). We will do this wonderful service 3 times on Sunday...9am;10:30am and 12noon so ...there is no excuse. REMEMBER we normally pack the house at 10:30am service so...try out 9am or 12noon. IF YOU ARE CHURCH FAMILY MEMBERS please drop your family at the door and park the furthest away so that our guests can park closer. If you would like to help with parking, handing out bulletins or seating people you don't have to be a member just a friendly face with a good heart! Just do it!

Okay we wanted you to get the information quick so...here it is...

This week...there are so many gifts to give...time, talent and treasure! Why? Cause He first gave you a gift...HIS ONLY Son!

We were blessed with more donations of winter clothes for all ages...come by this week and bag them for SAFE which is an organization for abused families to seek shelter...right in Culpeper. Want to deliver them? We have directions...stop by and help with this donation.

Help set the chairs up a SPECIAL way for the Christmas Program on Sunday! We will probably do this on Thursday night after Fusion...welcome to stop by on Friday though and see if there is anything else that can be done!

Volunteer to clean up the church: (we do not have a set cleaning crew...we should clean for our guests)

-bathrooms

-mop the foyer floors

-wipe down chairs

-vaccum

-water plants

-pick up trash around the building

Just stop by this week and get involved...

Remember that the year is closing and it is a perfect opportunity to give into what Liberty Community Church is doing ministering to the community so...get all your offerings in by Sunday, December 28th and you can claim it on your taxes for 2008!

Urban Outreach received approximately 20 bags from us STUFFED to the top with all kinds of goodies! This Saturday (December 12th) while we are walking in our community Christmas parade, the bags/stockings that went to the center in Washington, D.C. from Liberty Community Church will be placed in the hands of children in Southeast D.C. Children who's parents can't give them anything for Christmas. Some parents will not even be with the children because they will be working or some may not care about their child.

...you served these kids...abundantly...those 20 stockings/bags didn't just have one item in them...they were filled and overflowing...JUST like your hearts in giving to them...you served...

...other ways to serve...give this Sunday to building African wells...give to Building Community (a building used for multiple FREE community events, coffeehouse environment, tutoring, mentoring, recreational)...give by helping cleaning up the church...give your time, talent and gifts to the people in your community ...spend time in the community...LOOK for opportunity to JUMP in and SERVE others...this is the BEST GIFT you can give...Pass HIM on!

Sure the stores are bracing for BLACK FRIDAY ...where CRAZY actions will surely be seen and they are accepted...People knocking over tables and racks as they run to get the last of something that will break on Christmas Day...The day when being RUDE is the norm and accepted because retail stores BREED that type of environment in order to sell more stuff. When iPhones, iPods, Wii's are depleted off the shelves only to find out that in 3 months are lost, broken, stolen or just not that interesting afterall...

BUT there are TWO THINGS you could DO to make a REAL DIFFERENCE in A LIFE on BLACK FRIDAY...Go get stocking stuffers for your donation to URBAN OUTREACH and then...bring them to LIBERTY by DECEMBER 7th! Okay so this is our 3rd year helping with URBAN OUTREACH which is a ministry in Washington, DC who's life mission is only to love on those in Southeast DC. Every year they hold a special give away just for the kids. They give out stockings to hundreds and hundreds of children who may never have a chance to open gifts for Christmas because their parents can't afford it ...or they don't have parents...or they are homeless.

SO...SHINE LIGHT on BLACK FRIDAY...for a child truly in need of something that may affect them forever...HIS love ...through your heart!

We had 30 people show up for the Blood Drive! Wow! Great job AMY FURR in coordinating this wonderful gift to those in need! The concert by "COVENANT BAND" was off the charts! What a great band with such a wonderful heart for God! We want to bring them back in the spring!

THIS THURSDAY is Thanksgiving...okay so...are you alone for this holiday? Are you an officer, nurse, fireman? Stop by Liberty Community Church for a FREE meal. We have plenty of food! OH and don't worry...NO PREACHING :) just friendly faces in a great family environment! Doors open 6pm and we will start cleaning up by 8pm. PIES, turkey, corn, potatoes, gravy, rolls...so much more! This past 6 weeks has been wonderful! REALLY...sure many of us learned about love for the first time, many who thought they knew how to truly love re-learned how to really love. But it has been great! Okay we are going to party this Sunday...November 2nd as we come to the close of the sermon series "40 Days of Love" and begin our new journey loving others as Jesus Christ loves us! Wow! So...this Sunday during all 3 services (9:00am, 10:30am and 12noon) you will see love, feel love, hear loving words, sing songs about love...then at night beginning at 6pm we will show up to celebrate love...LIBERTYSTYLE...prayer, communion, LIVE BAND, and fellowship. Bring a dish to share with your family and enough for one more and we will sit down and eat together....THIS will be fun! Oh, and we will be honoring Pastor Wes' loving leadership of us being in this community. The band will play some originals along with familiar songs that will lead us into a wonderful time of praise and worship of our King of Kings! This is promised to be the night of new beginnings so show up!

Dear Parents and Friends of Fusion,

Fusion Teen Church has been a great part of local teen life for the past couple of years, and it has served to help teens to grow spiritually and in character during their difficult teen years. I am thankful that you have allowed your teens to be a part of Fusion and Liberty Community Church, and I am thankful for the trust you have placed in us.

I want to make you aware of some changes occurring in Fusion. Fusion has always been led by a quality group of parents and caring adults that have dedicated themselves to excellence and to seeing teens grow into healthy adults. There has been a change in this leadership team, and Sean fuller will no longer be leading this team. Sean has been forced by some personal issues to take a break from Fusion.

I am certain that there will be some speculation as to the reasons behind this break, and I want to assure you that Sean has done nothing wrong or improper in his leadership in Fusion. There are simply a few personal matters that he must give priority to, and he and I feel that he will not be able to give proper attention to these areas if he remains focused on Fusion.

Since Sean had such a great team around him, Fusion will be able to provide the same high quality experience for teens that it has done previously. There will likely be a period of readjustment, and I appreciate you bearing with us as we transition. Okay what was it...the moon? the water? ...a comet? Why did we have SEVERAL completely bald heads at Liberty CC this past Sunday? and...why did they all flock to Pastor Wes...to show him? Yep...it's true...the Liberty Community Church staffers (who get together every Tuesday morning at 10:30am to plan) decided to have a BIG party NOVEMBER 2nd to do the following:

Pray and PARTAKE in communion with LIVE worship music Celebrate 40 Days of Love and all the elements taught
Celebrate all the open-hearted home group leaders who allowed us to further study LOVE
and to Celebrate our Lead Pastor ...Pastor Wes and his family

So yep...we were in our Tuesday staff meeting and WHAM! the idea of a BIG PARTY on NOVEMBER 2nd came into our minds...instead of getting together for the ORIGINAL date of October 26th to celebrate our pastor only...we could get together for a CELEBRATION of LOVE for God, home group leaders, our community and our lead pastor...what FUN time this will be on NOVEMBER 2nd at 6pm...JUST bring a dish ...enough for you and your family PLUS one more! Bring friends, family, neighbors...they will feel right at home!

TRYING TO THINK OF SOMETHING TO GIVE TO PASTOR WES? Money would be a GREAT gift! He has gone back to school, kids need braces, expenses are high... This Sunday when you GIVE your TITHE...if you would like to GIVE a special gift to Pastor Wes...WRITE "Pastor Wes" in the memo or on another envelope. REMEMBER that Tithing is GIVING back to God the 1st 10% of what is already His... so TITHE FIRST...then,showing your appreciation towards Pastor Wes with a special monetary gift...would be fine.

Sean and Sean have been doing a great job with the SKITS on Sundays. they are reminding us of events, of what we have learned so far and to visitors...they make them laugh! So..this should continue but...they are giving it up at the end of this sermon series...IT WOULD BE GREAT...to have more skits for each sermon series...are you interested in writing the skits? are you interested in putting together a small group of people ...what if Pastor Wes could send you there theme? LOVIN LARGE AT Liberty CC!

This week we have continued with this journey through the 40 Days of Love campaign! We have experience so much during the past 2 weeks...

Jeni Mack and LCC team showed up BRIGHT and EARLY at the Remington Fall Fest where they set up two lots of LOVE :) they had face painting, popcorn and balloons. They greeted the community and invited them to all our upcoming events like Open Mic Nite (Oct 24th), the Blood Drive and FREE concert by Covenant Band (Nov 21st), the Community Thanksgiving Dinner (Nov. 27th), the Community Christmas Party with Brandishing Steel and Santa on stage (Dec. 12th) and more! Great job team!

Pet Blessing Day was a huge thing...many people brought their very loved pets...GUINEA PIGS...Snakes...Lizards...Dogs...Cats...Wow! Even Buddy Shortridge was up front with his owner...Pastor Wes. Fauquier County Sheriff K9 Unit brought in the 3 wonderful K9 teams to show us what happens when they let the Dogs Out! Wow! That alone will keep you off drugs and stealing...those dogs are SERIOUS about their job!

Okay so...last Sunday at Liberty Community Church was GREAT because all the HOME Group leaders had a "TAILGATE PARTY" for the Liberty Team! We witnessed a SKIT by a SEAN & sean as they informed us that this NEW Sermon Series 40 DAYS OF LOVE is not the "Barry White" kind of love but JESUS' pure love! Everyone listened to Pastor Wes www.revshortridge.blogspot.com speak about why we should be in a Home Group at LCC and he used the MAJOR point...Jesus formed a HOME GROUP first! So we ran out to the patio where the leaders served a great breakfast to the 9:00am service, and great lunches to the 10:30am and 12noon services. There was a TIKI BAR set up with happy leaders and signup sheets with their "MUG shot" on them, time, day and location. Then when you signed up for the group...directions were given to you. Don't worry you can signup for a HOME GROUP and they will contact you ASAP. THIS is going to be FUN ...and on October 25th we will all participate in LOVE BEALETON DAY when we go out into the community doing RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS...JUST BECAUSE JESUS FIRST LOVED US!

Oh my there is much going on at Liberty CC and you know sometimes our lives are busy ...just busy without a reason...just busy! Well there is always an event to get involved in at Liberty CC and there is always a great reason...we are Living Life Together...reaching out, growing up, sharing with, worship with, serving to ...PEOPLE in the community....WHY? BECAUSE JESUS first served us...OUT OF LOVE for us! UNCONDITIONAL...So here you go...just roll up your sleeves and join us...

You have got to be kidding...we all get a 3 day weekend! WHAT! Wow! What better thing to do than to knock on your neighbors door and invite them to a BBQ! Then while you have them as a captured audience start telling them what you have learned at Liberty Community Church during the past few weeks. Invite them to all the events coming up. Okay so here is the INSIDE SCOOP...we will have the baptismal all fresh and ready for the commitment you have been putting off for a while :) Need clothes or towel? We supply it. Not sure if you want to? Make your decision on Sunday morning...just let us know when you get there or...attend the 9am and get baptized at the 10:30am.

Just because school is back in doesn't mean all fun stops...WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!

This Sunday the Kids Zone will be doing special ART to be displayed next Sunday! WE are excited about doing this program with the kids once a month. This will help show the arts by the younger crowd and encourage the older crowd to show us their talent. Do you dance, draw, paint or something else? Let us know and we will encourage you to share your giftings, talent and hobbies at different LCC events.

Don't forget that Rose Toulotte, a church family member with the talent of mending/sewing, is available to hem that skirt or take in that waistline for a small fee ...ALL PROCEEDS will be donated to the Liberty Community Church's Building Community Fund where we will build what that community needs a place to go! Last night at Fusion (Thursday, August 28th) I heard that the worship time with the youth was wonderful. Guest keyboardist/singer: Jessica Adams led a group of praisers to the Throne Room of God! Sunday really moved many into the next step...serving others in love...some have called to get information to put out in their communities, some have decided that they would like, to give to more school supplies to the local families in need here in Fauquier County...some have decided to help with the Christmas Kids Program...some have decided that coming for one Sunday service and handing out bulletins would bless someone...some have decided to have yard sales and will be donating the proceeds to the Building Community Fund...WOW...MANY ARE THINKING OUT OF THE BOX ...MANY SEE THE OPPORTUNITIES...Some need help to see where they fit ...sign up for a two day class: LibertyLife 301 which will be on September 22nd and September 30th right here at LCC beginning at 6pm.

This is cool stuff...So far 11 people have taken the step and signed up for the Liberty Life 101 class which is led by Pastor Wes...This class offers the biblical foundation of why Liberty Community Church is in this community and how we fit in to the vision to reach the 12,000. Pastor Wes has a saying that he uses all the time:

What this means is that the thoughts rolling around in our heads are vague, abstract and fragmented. These thoughts won't ever become complete thoughts and concrete ideas unless we either speak them out loud, or write them down.

This is why Pastor Wes keeps encouraging everyone to write in a prayer journal.

There is a famous book titled "What Color is Your Parachute", which is the definitive book on job searches and career changes. Part III of the book is all about how to figure out what you want to do. There is a famous exercise named the "flower exercise" that is basically to write down ten answers to the question, "Who am I", and then sift thru your answers to create a summary that fits in the shape of a flower (hence, the name of the exercise).

I was at a workshop one time given the Paul Baloche, and he said, "songwriting is nothing more that praying with a guitar in your hand." I would change that a bit to say that songwriting is nothing more that setting you prayer journals to music. Same idea.

Being a creative activity, the songwriting process can be helped along by input and suggestions from others. This means that songwriting can be a social activity. Songwriting groups are common in Nashville. Perhaps the most famous Nashville songwriting group is the Muzik Mafia (website www.muzikmafia.com). This is the songwriting group that launched the careers of Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy, John Anderson (the country singer, not the lead singer of 'Yes'), and many others.

The Muzik Mafia songwriters get together to study songwriting and work on each others songs. Most of you know this by now, but the song that launched Gretchen Wilson's career, "Redneck Woman", was not written by Gretchen. It was written for Gretchen by John Rich (of Big & Rich). You get the idea of how this works? (BTW, the other half of Big & Rich, "Big Kenny" Alphin, is from Culpeper.)

The Muzik Mafia also performs together at local Nashville pubs every week, so they get an opportunity to play their music in front of live audiences. There are a lot of venues, like coffee shops, that love to host things like songwriter's showcases. And of course, LCC has the quarterly Night of Worship evenings.

Most of the LCC people I have talked to have said week nights are bad for them. So I'm thinking about having a songwriter's group that meets maybe once a month on either Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening. The way this would work is we would spend 15 or 20 minutes talking about the elements of good songwriting, and then we would work on each other's songs. It would also be a open jam for anyone who just wants to come and hang out. Each person who has a song to work on, would bring six or 8 copies of their song, and we would work on them as a group.

Songwriting is much more than just an occasional activity. It really is a different way of looking at the world and life. I once heard someone call songwriting the worlds only therapeutic addiction. Once you start doing it, you might be surprised how often you catch yourself saying, "that would be a great hook for a song." And, of course, the trick is to capture those thoughts so you don't forget them. And songwriting is a great way to discover what is really behind all those vague, abstract and fragmented thoughts rolling around in your head. I'm currently working on a song titled "Empty Chair" that was sparked by something Pastor Wes said in one of his sermons. (Hint: I've just given you an idea about a rich source of ideas.) You never know where ideas will come from.

Songwriting is really just like anything else that is worthwhile: if you want to get good at it, there are elements that you need to practice, practice, practice. Songwriting groups help you practice and develop those elements.

And I would like to leave you with one final thought:
